Student Observatory Waldbröl

The school observatory attracts young stargazers with telescopes, spectrographs, eyepieces and cameras that they can operate themselves.

Project description

Set-up of a student laboratory at Schnörringen Telescope Science Institute (STScI)

In 1999, the scientists Thomas Eversberg and Klaus Vollmann established the Schnörringen Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Waldbröl-Schnörringen with the aim to awake a passion for technology and science in young people.

In addition to their previous educational work they built a student laboratory in the form of several identical observatories. Small groups of up to three young people work here at an own observatory station.

The Hans Hermann Voss Foundation supported the set-up of the laboratory by funding the purchase of instruments like telescopes, spectrographs, oculars or cameras.
